Hi,
Very glad to see our web site in the Internet, I mean, it just awful, amazing. It seems to me you guys did a wonderful work there. As a graduate of Siping No.1 High School (the name matches the reality, No.1), I love my high school, and be proud of what it has done. I mean that.
My name is Wang Liquan. I graduated from our high school in 1989. I was in Class 2, and Yang Yuhuan was in charge of my class. She was very helpful to me when I studied there. Today, all I can say is that I would not get in my university (BUPT) without her help. So, here is one suggestion from me, could you guys please put the contact information of all the teachers in our website? even the students? It would be much better.
Currently, as a wireless software designer, I am working in Nortel Networks in Ottawa, Canada. In case anyone wants to talk to me, just use this Email address.
Best wish and good luck.

Welcome
to our Report of the year 2001 (January 2001 to December 2001) of David, Mio, and Taro.
We trust you have had a happy year of 2001 and a prosperous year 2002 ahead ! Highlight of the year include, Taro is now interested in mature and sexy lady, who draw his attention in his
childcare, on the street, in MacDonalds. Taro made tremendous progress in his Mandarin Chinese. David attended a conference that smack of reunion of his seniors and juniors. David was cheated off his Ericsson 18s Handphone and 600 Chinese Yuan in GuangZhou by someone whom at first look
appeared slow but in is in fact very fast.
Undoubtedly, Taro continued to occupy the centre of our lives. However, how long this will last is now uncertain. Mio is diagnosed to be pregnant and scheduled to deliver on July 29, 2002.
According to some experienced experts, all signs point to a baby girl. David like children in general and boys in particular, because a boy is likely to be soon in competition with Taro and consume his extra energy and thus leave David in relative peace.
Taro is now 4 years 3 months old and doing well. He continues to progress on English, Japanese, and Mandarin. His mixed use of English and Mandarin
(Singlish) is getting so bad that I received a warning from his drama teacher.
After consultation and discussion, we have implemented a division of language, Mandarin on Mondays and Tuesdays, Japanese on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the rest are English. His Malay degenerates so that now he could not speak much, he even hezitate to carry out the Malay greeting of kissing elders' hands when taking leave. We still sometimes get together with the babysitter Anita's family, especially on their biggest festival, Hari Raya Puasa. His Saturday 45 minute Yamaha music class is continuing. However, concentration is a problem for him. The two universities are continuously changing, shifting from the British style to a mixure of British and American styles. NTU has just implemented a two year common engineering syllubas. This means NTU students will learn more subjects at the some time. The Head of Division of David's has changed twice over the past year. These changes closely mirrored the Singapore economy , which went down again badly. Apart from 9.11 and periodicity, there is talk of structural problems. Singaporeans are urged to upgrade quickly to move away from the fierce competition by lower ranking countries such Vietnam and China. Mio's work is busy as usual and she is grateful that she is now driving rather than walking and bussing. David is putting more time into research and receiving more academic visitors to his school from Canada, UK, and Shanghai.
In January 2001, the daughter of David's MSc supervisor, Professor Yu Tongxi, was married. So he had the opportunities to host a party for him and had some fun in making dumplings and tried out his cooking skills. To his great surprise, his "aromatic chicken" turned out to be a hit. Now
travelling, we made quite a few trips both nearby in Malaysia, and further afield in China and Japan.
Beijing, CHINA
David invited his parents to come to Singapore for a few months in August. Unfortunately, they could only make the trip upto Beijing and stayed there with David's youngest sister. Instead, David, Mio, and Taro made a trip to Beijing to see his parents., during the one-week term break September 1-9, 2001.
We walked around QianMen, DaZhaLan, Hu2Tong4, and a Mosque in that area, hired a taxi to do the Great Wall, Ming Tombs circus, visited Lu2Gou1Qiao2 (Marco Polo Bridge), JingShan Park sunset, popped in Beijing University Campus, had a Dinner hosted by an old classmate, and had a late night drink in Friendship hotel to talk about the past and present of China, visited Yong1He2Gong1 Temple (Lamaist Temple), NiuJie Mosque, went to the SanLiTun Diplomat Compounds, and plenty of relaxing time with parents and sibblings. We stayed in Fengtai district, Yang2Fang2Chun1 (sheep place village), Chun1Ming2Yuan2Xiao3Qu1 (spring bright garden small district), near Gao1Li4Zhuang1 (high stand village), 2.5 km south of "World Park" (shi4jie4Gong1yuan2), quiet place between the fourth and fifth ring roads. We visited the bookcity in Xidan, and climbed onto the tower of CCTV to have an bird's view of Beijing for the first time and for 50Y. My stay in Beijing is more a family event so nothing much to report. Spent lots of time walking around the dark unlit villiage lanes in search of some night life in vain.
HongKong,
Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, CHINA
David attended a conference organized by the HongKong University of Science and Technology. The conference is titled "International Symposium on Plasticity and Impact' 01" (ISPI'01). It was a heartwarming event that David met his supervisor for his Master's degree study, his seniors and juniors under the same supervisor, as well as many other friends and associates. Many of them are now getting into new area such as nano technology and biomedical application. The conference is a compact and focussed event and much has been exchanged and discussed. David is looking forward to further collaboration and synergy that fostered during the conference.
Due to that conference, David made some side trips to ShenZhen, GuangZhou, and
Zhuhai. Guangzhou is large, crowded, a bit dirty, with pockets of serenity such as YunTai Park. Zhuhai occupies the other pole with pleasant boulevards, rocky parks, low rise building, pretty night views.
David spent about two days in Shenzhen, met old class mates, visited the theme of Minorities in China (Naxi, Mosuo, Tong), walked around FuTian district and
DongHu. I visited Donghu Reservoir Park, tried roller skating for 5Y, and rode on bus to see the sight of Shenzhen. Shenzhen is a pleasant place, except the underground construction clouded my impression of the place. The frequent (every half hour) one hour express train service to Guangzhou is impressive. I stayed in the GangLong hotel (300HKD) on top of the train station for convenience.
Guangzhou has built a lot more fly-overs in and around city centre. Consequently, the people use the city are pleased to get around quickly, while the people live in the city have miserable environment. The new area of TianHe is impressive with huge lawns and tall skyscrapper. I visited South China University of Science and Technology and its impressive college of Traffic where
my friend is working on the energy absorption of highway barriers. I stayed in the hotel attatched to army hospital in CiGang and soaked myself in the suburb living. I used bus to get around the city a lot, as about 10 buses ended at or near Cigang. Food and massage are the good ingredients of life in that area. A primary school classmate of mine took me to many restraunts and introduced many
friends. Snakes and zhe2gu1 birds in particular were featured in the menu. Dinner for one person ranged from 10Y to 100Y. A trip to FoShan has revealed the extent to which the Pearl River Delta has urbanized. Foshan is virtually indistinguishable from Guangzhou. The newly built Guangzhou-ZhuHai Freeway shorten the trip to Zhuhai to less than two hours from WuYangXinChun (five goats new village). Zhuhai is a pleasant place to relax, being 70 minutes away from HK by ferry. I stayed in the Zhuhai Resort Hotel in Jida district for 400Y/night. Zhuhai has just under 1 million people and are easily managed on bus. I went on a leisurely pace to SunYatSen's residence, Meixi Memorial Arc, Jingshan Park, as well as the city in general. At
SunYS' place I learnt that his current name in China, Zhongshan, was not used by himself and is derived from one of his Japanese alias (Nakayama). The 400 Million RMB Yuan museum depicted him as a fleshy rebellion boy next door. Meixi is the residence of a rich Hawaii fortune making retiring back to his home village at an age of 70. Opposite my hotel, I found two restruants specialized in the cuisine of North East China. One of the food I had not had for about 15 years. One of them had a chef from the same district of my hometown Siping. Food of North East China is in vogue in both Zhuhai and ShenZhen. In the evening, beauty and money converge onto LianHua Road. I highly recommend Zhuhai as a place for a short holiday.
The trips to China brought two changes in my thinking. First, I previously
thought China can catch up with Singapore Honkong within 50 - 100 years in terms
of average living standard. Through the first hand observation of the situation in Beijing, ShenZhen, Guangzhou, and Zhuhai, I realized it
probably takes another about 20 years for these coastal cities to catch up in living standard with Singapore, although it will take more than 50 years for the inland provinces. Second, previously, I did not invision myself living long term ever again in China in my life time (I doubt I can survive 50 years from now on).
Now, I see the possibility that I will once again live in one of the coastal
cities in China in my life time.
JAPAN
Mio and Taro visited Japan in November 2001 to spend time with Mio's family. Some of Taro's best time in Japan were spent in Ueno Zoo, Tokyo Aquarium, New Taiba and the Transportation Meseum at Akihabara Tokyo, and yume baku jyo. His encounter with geese in Japanese zoos can be compared with that of Columbus with American Indians. The Japanese language is the weakest amongst Taro's Chinese,
English, and Japanese. Plan is mooted that Taro be sent to Japan for one month "emersion" crash course on his own without his parents. This way he is expected to be forced to communicate in Japanese with his grandparents and uncles and unties.
MALASIA
Apart from the numerous business trips Mio made to Malaysia, David made some exploring trips to the across the border state of Johor by buses as well by car. The towns of Kota Tinggi and Pontian Kecil were visited on coaches for a relaxing country road riding. Permas Jaya, a suburb of Johor Bahru (JB) was expored for its atmosphere. The area behind the Istana Besar of JB was discovered for the surprisingly luxurious residences of the rich, famous, and noble.

When Drinking
Water,Never Forget the Resource of the Water
Hi Chenxu,
Very glad to have your input in Chinaren.com's Alumini
list(Xianyoulu). Actually
I have contacted Tangwenkai last week who is in Canada and it's amazing
that I have met Mashuqing in San Jose, California, US. Ma and me had a good
lunch in a Chinese restaurant. Actually her company is just a few miles away
from mine.
This world is so small and thanks to the internet it made our first
meet happen after nearly 14 years since graduation from Siping No 1 High School,
we had a good time talking, eating and recalling the past time we had back to
school. We have a draft plan to group together all classmates in North America
including US and Canada as 'Siping Yizhong Beimei Xiaoyouhui' and Ma will take
the leader role considering her strong leadership. You can help us to publish
our email list and contact number on 'Siping Yizhong' web site.
I do believe there're more classmates in US or
Canada and hopefully they will join us later on. How exciting it is! We can also
do sth for our united mother school, we know wholeheartedly such saying 'when
drinking water, never forget the resource of the water'.
As for me, I'm working in Filemaker, Apple computer as a senior software
engineer in the center of Silicon Valley, 50 miles away from San
Francisco, I'm fine and there are many Chinese here from different parts of this
planet. The weather here is nearly perfect (neither hot nor cold through the
whole year) but housing price is very very expensive too.
Pls. convey my best regards to Liyunming, WangQiang as well as other teachers
and hope to see you again this winter or next spring!
I'm sorry I'm not able to write but can read in Chinese.
Best regards and good luck,
You can write to me(Chinese OK) at haibo_chi@filemaker.com or hbchi@hotmail.com

(University
of Louisville)商学院 MBA,
(Academy
